ECE 562 - Spring 2020
Power System Transaction Management
Course Description
ECE 562, Power System Transaction Management, will take a close look
at today's modern electric power systems from the bulk power operations and
transmission reservations/scheduling point of view. The main topics will
include Available Transfer Capability (ATC), Congestion Management,
Transmission Loading Relief, Regional Transmission Organizations, Independent
System Operators, and the federally authorized Electric Reliability
Organization - NERC.
In addition, the course will cover a few computational techniques for
assessing Available Transfer Capability of large-scale electric power
systems via distribution factors. The simulation tools will be a
combination of MATLAB routines (written by you) and commercial-grade code
(MATPOWER) developed by my colleagues at Cornell University. If time
permits, we will discuss the latest framework for congestion
management and scarce resource allocation: Locational Marginal Pricing
combined with Fixed Transmission Rights.
