Chicago Chapter 2019-2020

How to Engineer Your Success

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Alex Flueck

Illinois Tech

About the Topic

Would you like more success? Do you feel stuck in some areas? Are you ready to try something new?

If you want to experience more success, as defined by YOU, then be sure to join us for an end-of-summer investment in your career development!

This meeting will be unlike our traditional technical meetings. Our summer 2019 experiment will be a hands-on workshop, not a traditional lecture-based presentation. During the workshop, you will complete several worksheet exercises on your own. We also will discuss our findings as we go.

The free workshop will focus on three fundamental ingredients of success:

  1. Setting an intention
  2. Cultivating awareness
  3. Getting unstuck
This will be a fun evening, full of insights and a-ha moments! We will explore the process of personal transformation. You will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of how your mind works and a series of next steps to take in your journey.

Don't miss this opportunity to bring more clarity to your life. Invest in your success!

About the Speaker

Dr. Alex Flueck is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. He has been a member of the faculty for 23 years, since receiving his PhD degree from Cornell University in 1996. During that period, he has launched several innovative courses, including (1) an undergraduate course on the design of autonomous robots, (2) a graduate course on algorithms for managing power grid congestion, (3) a graduate course on the fundamentals of probability for power system reliability, and (4) a graduate short-course on the IEEE standards and applications of synchrophasor technology.

Dr. Flueck has led a variety of research projects, as Principal Investigator, totaling more than $4 million, including (1) Available Transfer Capability of Deregulated Power Systems, (2) IIT Research Experiences for Teachers Site: Corps of Educators and Workshop, (3) Local Area Monitoring System for Microgrids, (4) Faster than Real-Time Dynamics Simulation for Predicting Power System Behavior, (5) A Tool Suite for Improving Reliability and Performance of Combined Transmission-Distribution under High Solar Penetration, and (6) Protection and Dynamic Modeling, Simulation and Analysis of Cascading Failures.

Alex's personal transformation interests include art of learning, confidence, creativity, curiosity, emotional intelligence, flow states, habits, inner workings of the mind, interpersonal relationships, leadership, meditation, mindfulness, motivation, philosophy, psychology, self-compassion, stoicism, will power and other non-engineering-related aspects of the human experience.
