IEEE Power and Energy Society
Chicago Chapter 2018-2019
Utility Perspective on High Penetration of DER
Wednesday, May 8, 2019
Aleksi Paaso
ComEd
About the Topic
As interest in distributed energy resources (DER) is increasing, technologies are needed to integrate these resources so as to provide society the higher levels of sustainability and resilience that DER can support. ComEd has been leading the way in developing, demonstrating and deploying the capabilities to do just that. From releasing a hosting capacity map covering the more than 11,000 square miles of which its service territory consists, to installing the first utility-operated microgrid cluster, the cutting-edge work of its power engineers allow it to set the standard for an advanced electric utility. This talk will describe some of the emerging challenges facing electric utilities, as well as the innovative ways in which they can meet them.
