SCADA in Renewable Energy Substations
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
Paul Pabst
S&C Electric
About the Topic
SCADA, or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, is a way to
remotely monitor and control substations. Information such as MW
plant output, breaker statuses, fault information, and diagnostics can
be sent from the generation site to a centrally located control
center, allowing convenience of monitoring and saving time and money
in operating costs. This presentation will go over the purpose of
SCADA, how it is applied in renewable energy systems, the benefits,
and common practices amongst utility owned as well as developer-owned
renewable energy systems.
About the Speaker
Paul Pabst, PE is the Supervisor of SCADA Engineering in the Power
Systems Solutions division at S&C Electric Company in Chicago,
Illinois. He is a licensed engineer in Illinois and Florida. His major
responsibilities include technical lead of protection & control
systems and SCADA integration design. He also has strong experience in
control enclosure design, field start-up and commissioning of green
field and brown field substations, and design and full-scale testing
of distribution automation systems. Paul received his bachelor's
degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 2007, and
became a registered professional engineer in 2011.
