About the Topic
In 2011, A. Finkl & Sons Steel commissioned a new steel mill on the
south side of Chicago consisting of a 75 MVA Electric Arc Furnace.
This presentation will discuss the engineering and construction of the
new steel mill, including steps taken to integrate the steel mill to
the ComEd 138kV transmission system. The presentation will also
discuss how the steel mill currently operates in production.
A. Finkl & Sons Steel was founded in Chicago in 1879. Today, A. Finkl
& Sons Steel is the worlds leading supplier of forging die steels,
plastic mold steels, die casting tool steels and custom open die
forgings. A. Finkl & Sons processes over 100,000 tons of steel each
year from its plants, which are all located in Chicago.
About the Speaker
The presenter will be John Guliana. John is Vice President of
Engineering and Planning for A. Finkl & Sons Steel. John obtained an
Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree in 1969.

Continuing Education
IEEE technical meetings may be acceptable as continuing education where
required for maintenance of professional engineering licensure. Refer to
the individual state's requirements for details. A receipt for one
Professional Development Hour (PDH) will be provided.
