Electric Power, CO2 Controls and the Tough Choices Ahead
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Richard W. Knoebel
Sargent & Lundy
About the Topic
The presentation will provide a brief discussion of CO2 and the
control proposals which have been floating through the US congress.
Several of the main issues that are involved in the effort to achieve
the controlled CO2 emissions levels are investigated to evaluate how
realistic some of the potential actions will be in achieving their
targets. The presentation also looks at some of the economy wide
actions and provides a high level assessment of how these actions will
affect the electric power industry and peoples' lives.
About the Speaker
Richard W. Knoebel graduated from Bradley University (BSCE) in 1977
and began his career at Sargent & Lundy as a structural engineer. He
completed his MS degree (Structural Engineering) from the University
of Illinois at Urbana in 1982. He has been at Sargent & Lundy for over
thirty-two years. During that time he has been exclusively involved
in providing engineering and consulting services for the electric
power industry.
Mr. Knoebel's work experience involves the design of new fossil fuel,
nuclear and renewable power stations. He has been involved in
countless modification projects for operating power stations. He has
worked internationally in over 40 countries on power and energy
projects.
For the last fifteen years Mr. Knoebel has been involved in providing
technical consulting services to the power industry for project
development and financing of new and existing power plants for major
international banks. This work has involved providing technical
advice to lenders, developers and contractors to assist in the
successful development of energy projects. Mr. Knoebel also was
largely responsible for the development of Sargent & Lundy's
renewable energy services work.
Currently, Mr. Knoebel is a Senior Vice President and Project Director
at Sargent & Lundy L.L.C. in the consulting business group. He has
been one of the owners of the firm since 2005.
