About the Topic

A new 500 kV and 230 kV transmission project, designated the Sunrise Powerlink Project, has been undertaken by San Diego Gas & Electric to provide access to renewable generation and increase system reliability. Numerous studies have been performed to support the purpose and need for the project. A public outreach process was performed to solicit input for selection of the transmission line route. Extensive engineering studies were undertaken to establish the design and types of construction that cost-effectively meet project objectives while minimizing environmental impact. The California Public Utilities Commission has recently approved the Project making way for the completion of detailed engineering and construction to support a mid-2012 in-service date.
