The eight cyber-security reliability standards of the National Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) were adopted and made enforceable by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Now that the definition of Critical Cyber Assets has been established, utilities and other Responsible Entities are focusing their efforts on meeting the Substantial Compliance, Compliance, and Auditable Compliance implementation dates specified in these standards.
Mr. Whitney will discuss practical approaches for making the network architecture and physical security changes needed for compliance and meeting the challenge of documenting compliance.
Tobias Whitney is a senior project and business development manager in Burns & McDonnell's Business & Technology Services Group. His background blends experience in public accounting, security and energy business consulting. Mr. Whitney is actively involved with the North American Electric Reliability Council subcommittees and regional Information Systems Audit and Control Associations.
His initiatives have helped define security, regulatory compliance and utility technology solutions for critical infrastructure organizations such as electric utilities, government facilities and process industries. Whitney's opinions and technical briefings have appeared in Public Utilities Fortnightly, T&D World, Electric Power and been recognized by organizations including the International Facilities Management Association.
