Infrastructure Protection and the Power Industry

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Herman Green

Argonne National Laboratory

About the Topic

This presentation will provide an overview about the topic of infrastructure protection as it relates to the power industry. The presentation will discuss what infrastructure protection is and explore some of the key players that are involved, initiatives that are underway and the challenges that are faced in protecting power systems.

About the Speaker

Herman Green is a licensed engineer and licensed architect with a broad background in infrastructure protection issues. He spent 28 years with Alliant Energy, was a member of their management team and was actively involved with security and crisis management issues. These efforts included active roles on industry security committees (e.g. NERC, EEI, EPRI) and on security assessment and training initiatives (e.g. process controls training for Cyber Crime Task Force members).

He has also remained active since 2003 on U.S. Coast Guard maritime security committees in the Lake Michigan region. Currently, Mr. Green works for Argonne National Laboratory supporting the Department of Homeland Security on infrastructure protection matters. For example, he manages the development of a monthly security reference report series about common vulnerabilities, protective measures and potential indicators of terrorist activity.
