About the Topic

The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the Galvin Electricity Initiative and preliminary results from an ongoing project with Illinois Institute of Technology to develop and deploy a model of Perfect Power. The purpose of the Galvin Electricity Initiative is to define a power system that will most perfectly meet the evolving needs of consumers in the 21st century. The IIT Galvin Project is focused on creating a model of the Perfect Power system as well as living laboratories for the technology innovations that will make this model a reality.

About the Speaker

Mr. Thomas Smith has worked in the power industry for over 25 years. He is the President & CEO of Endurant Energy LLC. Prior to creating Endurant, Mr. Smith was VP of Energy Operations at Equity Office Properties, one of the largest REIT's in the US, where he was responsible for managing all of the company's energy initiatives, including commodity procurement, auditing/bill processing and retrofit services. Additionally, he managed On-Site Energy Providers (OSEP LLC), a business unit that developed, constructed, operates and maintains 17 cogeneration systems within the company's nationwide building portfolio. Prior to joining Equity Office in 2001, he served as president and general manager of two power development company's that secured energy optimization and cogeneration contracts with global corporations, industrial facilities and state universities.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Midwest Cogen Association, American Gas Association, United States Combined Heat and Power Association, and the Real Estate Round Table Energy Committee. He has testified recently in rate cases on behalf of electric deregulation and cogeneration in Massachusetts, New York, California and Illinois.
